About & Contact

The perfect, romantic hideaway!

The Old Byre has unrestricted and amazing views of the Manifold Valley and the high hills surrounding Swainsley Farm.

This superb cottage has beamed ceilings, many original features and is ideal for couples wanting peace, quiet, comfort and understated luxury.

Downstairs, there’s an open plan sitting room with new wood burning bio mass stove, dining room and deluxe kitchen (granite worktops, integrated appliances and a full range of cooking and dining ware).

Upstairs, a galleried landing leads to a lovely double bedroom ('with views to die for', the opinion of one of our visitors). There’s also a modern deluxe bathroom with bath/over-bath shower, WC and heated towel rail.

On arrival you’ll find flowers, locally made scones, home-made jam, tea, coffee, sugar and a jug of milk, toiletries, cling film, silver foil, kitchen & loo paper. Breakfast boxes are available on request, along with other local produce. We provide premium quality bed linen, robes, hand, bath and kitchen towels. Guests with babies are requested to bring their own cot linen.

We have a Scandinavian, wood-fired (biomass) hot tub with space for 6 adults. It is NOT included but available for an extra charge. It's 'one use only' with no chemicals, so for hygiene reasons it needs to be emptied, cleaned, refilled and heated before each use. Please see our Terms and Conditions.

Reviews for Old Byre at Swainsley Farm

Meet the owner

Liz or Chris Snook

Working overseas and looking for a home in the UK, we fell in love with Swainsley Farm one day in November 1979. The sun was shining brightly, there was a little snow on the ground and we were amazed by the beauty of the Manifold Valley - everything was so incredibly peaceful and pristine! It’s the only home we have ever had and it’s been a wonderful place to bring up three daughters. 18th C. farm buildings were not viable in terms of modern agriculture and holiday cottages seemed the best way of preserving them. We’ve been members of Premier Cottages almost from its inception and we’ve tried to provide what we would want: quiet, peaceful and luxurious accommodation in surroundings where it’s easy to relax and unwind. The Peak District offers a huge range of activities … we’d love to welcome you to our spectacular home! Chris & Liz.
