Norfolk, Suffolk & East of England

LUXURY HOLIDAY COTTAGES IN NORFOLK, SUFFOLK & EAST OF ENGLAND

Reasons to holiday in the East of England

Eastern England is almost a world apart, rolling plains and open countryside giving way to spacious coastlines. But there is much life, too, particularly in Norwich, county town of NORFOLK, where medieval streets are filled with restaurants, cafes and shops, a stunning 11thcentury cathedral and grand castle. Here, too is a gateway to the Broads, a 200km network of navigable waterways spreading to the coast at Great Yarmouth, attracting boaters and walkersBird-watching is hugely popular throughout the county, especially at RSPB reserves such as Snettisham.  The Royal home of Sandringham, over 640 historic churches, mysterious Thetford Forest, and a walkable coast of stunning beaches dotted with resorts such as Cromer, famous for its crab dishes, and Hunstanton, overlooking the vast seascapes of The Wash all add huge charm.

Suffolk's coastline extends through atmospheric small resorts such as Southwold, Lowestoft and especially Aldeburgh – with musical links to Benjamin Britten acknowledged at the annual Aldeburgh Festival in nearby Snape Maltings. Famous wool towns such as Clare and Lavenham perfectly capture a sense of medieval England, often with pubs selling locally-brewed beer. Historic Woodbridge is steeped in Anglo Saxon heritage, including a saxon burial ship at Sutton HooIpswich presents lively streets, museums and, one of the UK’s largest collections of paintings byJohn Constable, son of the county. Historic Bury St. Edmunds is an exquisite market town with stunning Abbey Gardens, and towards the Cambridgeshire border, the horse town of Newmarket is home to two fine race-courses. A step further takes you to the heady academic realms of Cambridge.

There’s plenty to see and do in the East of England so book yourself a self-catering cottage and be ready to explore.
