THERE’S NOWHERE LIKE NORFOLK FOR A VARIETY OF BEACHES FOR EVERYONE – INCLUDING YOUR POOCH!
With over 100 miles of coastline in the combined sunniest/driest county in the UK, you are spoilt for choice for beaches. Here are some of our favourite dog friendly beaches Norfolk:
Great Yarmouth has not just fabulous sandy beaches but entertainment of every kind too. The golden sands run parallel to the Golden Mile with its attractions such as the SeaLife Centre, crazy golf and the rollercoasters of the Pleasure Beach. No chance of the kids getting bored here!
Another great favourite is Wells next the Sea – a massive sandy beach with pine woods – and there is even a little railway to enjoy if you want a short cut down to the sands. Colourful beach huts and fish and chips in the town before you go home. Yummy.
If you are looking for a great place for your pet pooch – then why not try the huge flat sands at Brancaster Beach. Park near the golf course and let your dog have a great run, and run, and run – and you might eventually get them back wagging their tail, tired and happy.
A particular favourite, even in the winter, is Horsey Beach. Along with the National Trust beach at Blakeney Point, it is a great place to see seals – you can even get right up close in boat trips at Blakeney – who could resist that cute pup!
How about Holkham Bay – renowned when it featured in Shakespeare in Love with Gwyneth Paltrow. It has been voted the best beach in Britain and is just a vast beach with great pubs nearby for that refreshing break afterwards And when the tide goes out this beach is 4 times bigger than this photo taken at high tide – yes it really is
How about entertainment? The beach at Cromer has a beautiful pier above the sands – and the Pavilion Theatre has a great summer show worth visiting. You can catch the world famous Cromer Crabs here – or watch the crabbing boats pull up and make sure you don’t leave without tasting a fab crab sandwich – scrummy!
Into kitesurfing? Then Hunstanton is another choice and not only that, it has a fabulous geology (so you can get the kids having a bit of education too) – and bizarrely, because it is our only west facing beach on the east coast – you get spectacular sunsets. Cool!
Love good old fashioned sand dunes? Then try Winterton and Sea Palling beaches. Wild and wonderful Winterton, just so unspoilt – or the safe sandy Sea Palling with lifeguards watching over the children too – there’s good parking, buckets & spades and ice creams too.. just as you remember them.
A bird lover? Then there is nowhere better than Tichwell – all year round. Just a short walk from the excellent visitor centre to the beach takes you past reedbeds and lagoons teaming with birds. There are wheelchair accessible hides and a shop full of binoculars and telescopes – not forgetting a great cafe too.
And last of our top 10 recommendations, but definitely not least is Sheringham Beach. It’s a fabulous beach with rock pools by the groynes, a lovely old fashioned unspoilt seaside village full of shops and cafes – and a short walk to the majestic Poppylands Steam Railway. And if you have time, walk up to the National Trust’s Sheringham Park and see a spectacular view of the coastline from the Humphrey Repton landscaped gardens with their wonderful rhododendrons and azaleas.. Wow…
