About & Contact

Luxury and comfort in the Yorkshire Dales

Urlay Nook is the only 5 star Gold Award holiday cottage in Askrigg, and one of only a handful in The Dales sleeping 4 in space and comfort with two bathrooms. It is prettily yet conveniently situated on the edge of the village, next to Askrigg Beck. The views from the south facing rear garden are onto open fields, yet is still only a couple of minutes’ walk from the centre of the village with its shops, pubs, restaurants and church.

This is a cottage filled with light - it has 20 windows and 4 outside doors! Original features abound throughout the cottage, with its thick stone walls, beams, bread oven, and window seats. The cottage is co-ordinated throughout and decorated with paints from Farrow and Ball and The Little Greene Paint Company. The mixture of new and antique furniture ensures the true cottage atmosphere whilst ensuring that you have all of the modern comforts that you have worked hard for and deserve.

This is a luxurious and comfortable cottage in a fantastic location, equipped to an extremely high standard to ensure a warm welcome and fabulous holiday, and this is confirmed by the accolade of the 5 star Gold Award grading by VisitEngland.

Urlay Nook is a very special cottage with a shaker-style dining/kitchen in cream with beech worktops, traditional dresser, cream and wood table and chairs, traditional stone floor and door into the (hopefully) sunny, south facing and private garden. The large utility room is off the kitchen with additional storage and drying space. There is a separate stone flagged and dramatic dining room, leading into the downstairs lobby with original bread oven in the massive stone walls of the cottage which keep it cool in summer and cosy and warm in winter. From the lobby, you access the living room with its stone fireplace with multi-fuel stove, and two large, comfortable hand-made settees to curl up on and relax with the smart TV with SkyQ.

Upstairs the cottage has two spacious bedrooms and bathrooms. There is a large master super king-size bedroom with a stunning handcrafted 6ft bed and en suite shower room, a magnificent vaulted beamed ceiling, antique furniture, and smart TV and SkyQ. The twin bedroom has a romantic pair of white and brass beds and more antique furniture and a further smart screen TV and SkyQ. The Villeroy and Boch house bathroom has a separate large shower and bath.

The cottage is next to the road, but is still lovely and peaceful with the sound of the beck running past it; the double glazed windows ensure that there is virtually no road noise. There is parking for one large/medium car or two small cars directly outside the cottage, with additional, and ample, free parking directly across the road.

Open fire in the living room, oil central heating throughout the cottage, dishwasher, microwave, washer/drier, electric cooker with ceramic hob and twin fan ovens, fridge, freezer, utility room with drying space, toaster, cafetiere, smart TV with SkyQ (signature package) in living room, , Blu-Ray player, Bluetooth, radio/cassette/CD player, Superfast Wifi, smart TVs in both bedrooms with SkyQ, iPod dock clock radios in bedrooms, tourist information, books, games, shoe cleaning kit, hairdryer, electric blankets on all beds, iron and ironing board, torch, bedlinen, towels and tea towels provided, en suite shower room to master bedroom with shower, WC, wash hand basin and shaver point, house bathroom with separate shower, bath, WC, wash hand basin and shaver point. Private south facing garden with furniture and garden shed. Afternoon tea hamper provided for your arrival. Oil, electricity and coal included in the rental. Everything is included in the rental and there are no hidden charges.

Sorry no pets or smokers.

Reviews for Urlay Nook at Askrigg Cottage Holidays

Meet the owner

Ken & Sue Williamson

We would like to welcome you to Askrigg Cottage Holidays and our beautiful self-catering holiday cottages in the glorious Yorkshire Dales National Park. We began our love affair with the Yorkshire Dales with our first holiday here in 1987 and bought a second home in Askrigg in 1995 (Minnie's Cottage). We moved here to live in 2000 and our family followed us shortly after, so we now have 3 generations living and working in Askrigg. Our ethos is to remain hands-on and family run and our gorgeous cottages are designed and equipped to the standards that we would want to find. We take pride in our cottages and providing you with the best holiday that we can. We think that we have a two very special and unique holiday cottages in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales National Park, and we feel very privileged to be able to live and work in this area, and to be able to share them with our guests.
