Charming farm cottages on stunning Heritage Coast


If you have never visited this area before, you’ll be entranced by this hidden, and largely unknown region of our country. The East Riding of Yorkshire is a perfect combination of rolling Wolds countryside and spectacular coastline. Here you can get away from the crowds. The unspoilt countryside is a perfect place for a picnic, for walking, cycling, photography and wildlife opportunities amongst the rich farmland, dry valleys and acres of peaceful space. Our coastal areas have unending variety with long, sandy Blue Flag beaches, tiny coves with fascinating rock pools, mysterious caves and the sheer chalk cliffs. RSPB Bempton Cliffs is a famous site for thousands of seabirds including mainland nesting gannets and puffins, from March onwards.

The stresses of modern day urban life are quickly forgotten at Field House Farm, Heritage Escapes. Here, the slower rhythms of the countryside take over. Of course all our standards are 21st century! We’re proud to have been awarded Visit England Gold for every cottage - most are 5 Star and two at 4 Star level. We are regular winners & finalists in our regional awards, including Yorkshire White Rose Award for Excellence. Attention to our environmental footprint has meant we've held Green Tourism Gold Award from 2010. We care about our visitors and look after their well being.

Now in our seventh generation at Sewerby/Bempton, we’re delighted to share this wonderful part of Yorkshire with you. All visitors are assured of a friendly, personal service, as our family continues to live on site in the farmhouse & work the surrounding land. Our beautifully appointed, luxury cottages enjoy a lovely rural location, set within 600 acres of farmland, a rich habitat for deer, hare & many species of endangered birds. Flamborough Head, Sewerby & Bridlington are all within 3 miles.

There are so many wonderful places to visit nearby. Sewerby Hall provides a delightful day out for all the family. If you enjoy historic houses, Burton Agnes Hall is an Elizabethan gem only seven miles away with superb gardens, a fantastic art collection and a lovely tea room. Castle Howard is a splendid destination, whilst Sledmere is lesser known, but just as interesting. Castles at Scarborough, Pickering and Helmsley provide rich ground for the childrens' imagination and we're situated in a part of Yorkshire that Henry VIII left with many magnificent ruins of former abbeys!

The North Yorkshire Steam Railway takes you across the beautiful Yorkshire Moors towards bustling Whitby. Eden Camp tells the story of the prisoner of war camps, in a way that is both educational and enjoyable. Flamingoland is a family fun day out. Historic York and Beverley are both worth a day trip -showcasing minsters, churches, markets & medieval streets. Hull, Capital of Culture 2017, is a real surprise with numerous free museums, galleries & The Deep - an incomparable aquarium.

Cycling or walking in The Wolds is an unmissable pleasure. The roads are quiet. The signage is good and East Yorkshire has produced a mass of information to help you on your way. We have secure cycle storage at both sites in addition to EV charging. Each cottage has plenty of maps and information for use during your stay.

We hold Visit England Mobility 2 Access for The Roost, providing full ground floor accommodation with 2 en suite bedrooms, (one with wet room, one with bathroom). Additionally, at the Field House site, Ostler's Corner, Turnip House, Garden Cottage & The Byre offer at least one ground floor bedroom, one ground floor shower room and ground floor living accommodation.

Children & babies are very welcome at Field House, where we have an outdoor play area. We are also happy to allow up to  two dogs in Hind's Cottage,  and one dog  for The Byre and The Turnip House.

Meet the owner

John, Angela and James Foster

Field House Farm at Heritage Escapes has been our family workplace and home now for six generations. We're glad to share our part of the countryside with you and feel sure you'll enjoy your experience of East Yorkshire. We're blessed by living in a lovely rural location, very close to the sea, and only a stone's throw from the spectacular scenery of Flamborough Head, Bempton Cliffs and Bridlington's miles of safe, sandy beaches. We live onsite, so we're around to give any help you might need or point you in the right direction to a holiday attraction or lesser known beauty spot. Our son, James joined us in 2015, with his young family and they live nearby. Fiona and her team of housekeepers couldn't be more loyal, hard-working and friendly. You'll see all of us going about our daily tasks and we're always on hand should you need us. We're still very much a working farm, now predominantly arable, with a few cows and chickens.
