A wonderful farmhouse and adjoining cottage providing luxurious and tranquil accommodation for up to 18 in beds and 2 in cots situated in the beautiful Wye Valley in between Hereford and Hay on Wye and close to the River Wye.

The hamlet of Monnington on Wye offers undisturbed tranquillity and yet is easily connected to local activities nearby and on the Wye; a superb farmshop at the top of the lane and great pubs all within 20 minutes drive. It is accessible from the M5 and M50. Here, you will hear sheep grazing and birds tweeting as they go about their daily business. A short walk to the river through the cider apple orchards will stir your senses and let your shoulders drop and stresses disappear. Monnington House and Garden Cottage have bags of charm and are a place for all seasons - cosy up by the woodburners on a cold winters evening and enjoy crispy, misty walks or lap up the gardens and fresh air and south facing terrace when the sun comes out and enjoy long lazy lunches.

Monnington House and Garden Cottage have 9 huge bedrooms and 9 bathrooms. Each bedroom has a high quality hypnos super king (zip and link) bed and comes with luxurious 400 thread count Egyptian linen. This simple luxury allows you to rest and restore. There is a ground floor bedroom in Garden Cottage for those who are less able.

The house has a fantastic working kitchen geared up for entertaining and catering. It is well equipped throughout with 2 electric ovens, 2 dishwashers, 3 fridge freezers on site and an aga during the winter months. The dining area both inside and outside seats 18 . Conde Nast commented 'the house has an incredibly sociable feel to it and yet there is plenty of space to retreat to'. We have a great local caterer who works in the house frequently and has great reviews. She really can enhance your stay and is reasonably priced.

On site there is plenty to do. Enjoy the large and private 2 acre garden and grounds plus a playing field with 2 football goals. For rainy days and winter nights in the outbuildings there is a rustic table tennis room and a games room with pool table and table football. Bring your fleece and trainers and wrap up.

There is wonderful waking straight from the door with a choice of trails available. Monnington on Wye is located on the Bredwardine to Byford Section of the Wye Valley Walk and also on the E1 part of the Wye Walker. Across the river guests enjoy Moccas Hill Wood National Nature Reserve where there is a large choice of walks suitable for all ages and abilities. For those who really like to get their hearts racing a trip up Hay Bluff is a must then you can retire to the Three Tuns in Hay.

During the summer months the River Wye comes into its own. Guests love fishing and can obtain passes from either Bulmers Angling Club or the Fishing Passport. Large group bookings frequently enjoy a full or half day canoeing or kayaking on the Wye and include a suitable stop at a pub on the riverbank for refreshments. Wild swimming is increasingly popular. We can put you in touch with an expert.

Visits to the market towns of Hay on Wye, Presteigne and Leominster are enjoyed and for those who love a cathedral the Mappa Mundi in Hereford Cathedral should not be missed. There are still many independent shops in these markets towns, with galleries and great cafes and pubs. Trekking in the Black Mountains with the llamas is very therapeutic and should be booked well in advance. The Small Rare Breeds Farm at Kington only 10 miles away is loved by young and old. The National Trust Weir Gardens are built on the bank of the Wye and are only 4 miles away. It has a natural play area for children which is great and is open all year.

The number of great local pubs with food is growing. Our guests enjoy visiting the Red Lion at Bredwardine which serves food in the summer and is within a good hours walk. Further a field the Stagg at Titley, The Kilpack Inn and the Cider Barn at Pembridge are all good and worth a visit.

I manage and run Monnington House and the Cider Mill. My husband was brought up in the house. I used to run a National Lettings Department throughout London and the South West. I have 2 children who are now grown up and live in London but do visit regularly. When I am not busy with the House and Cider Mill I love cooking, being in my garden and growing flowers and vegetable, walking my 3 black Labradors who I have bred and being with my friends.
