Large groups welcome
A beautiful period farmhouse and two cottages offering large groups a beautiful and peaceful location with walking from the door and within 10 minutes’ walk from the River Wye in heavenly Herefordshire in The Marches. The three properties situated in a small hamlet almost equidistant from the cathedral city of Hereford and book lovers town of Hay on Wye offer when combined 12 double bedrooms and 12 bathrooms and sleep 24 in beds (plus 5 infants in cots). One bedroom in Garden Cottage is on the ground floor and The Cider Mill is all on one level and is great for those with mobility issues. In the main house the working kitchen is spacious and& is geared up for catering and numbers of 24. Plenty of cooking appliances (2 electric ovens, a hob and 4 door aga), 2 dishwashers and 3 fridge freezers plus generous amounts of pots, pans, glasses and crockery make entertaining easy and fun. The working island is generous in size and a sociable place to chop, chat and prepare food for large numbers. The farmshop is only 1.8 miles from the house and open 7 days a week. Many of our guests visit Oakchurch twice a day for supplies. The dining area in the main house seats 24 at one long table and adjoins the kitchen area. Everyone is included and this space is convenient and friendly. The outside dining area seats 24 is located on the east side of the house and accessed from the French doors of the working kitchen. Again, this is easy to access and handy and popular for taking breakfast and lunch in the sunshine. There is a large south facing terrace with outdoor soft seating for guests to enjoy whilst having a drink, reading a book, playing games and watching the sun set. We carry forward a philosophy of hospitality and wish to create the feeling of staying in someone's home surrounded by understated beauty, elegance and nature. All properties enjoy private and peaceful gardens and grounds of more than 2 acres and a huge playing field with 2 football goals plus a games room and rustic table tennis room in the outbuildings. All properties are supplied with Hypnos super king zip and link beds and luxurious 400 count Egyptian linen. These simple luxuries allow guests to rest and restore. The properties are full of books, plants, textiles and objects handpicked by the owner over the last 15 years. The hamlet of Monnington on Wye offers undisturbed tranquillity and beauty and yet is connected to many activities, pubs and cafes and places to visit all within 20 minutes drive. There is a superb farmshop at the top of the lane only 1.8 miles. A short walk through the cider orchards is the River Wye. On site there is plenty to do - enjoy the large 2 acres of gardens and grounds which are private and quiet and play football on the huge playing field. For rainy days and winter nights enjoy the rustic table tennis room and the games room with pool table and table football in the outbuildings. Bring your fleece and wrap up! There is wonderful walking straight from the door to suit all abilities and ages. Monnington on Wye is located on the Bredwardine to Byford Section of the Wye Valley Walk and also on the E1 part of the Wye Walker. Across the river guests love the Moccas Hill Wood National Nature Reserve where there is a large choice of walks and wonderful trees to admire. For those who like to get their heart racing a walk to Arthurs Stone from the house is a challenge and takes about 2 hours or drive to Hay on Wye and march up Hay Bluff. During the summer months the River Wye comes into its own. Guests love fishing and can obtain passes from either Bulmers Angling Club or the Fishing Passport. Large group bookings often enjoy a full or half day canoeing or kayaking on the Wye which can include a suitable stop at a pub on the riverbank for lunch. Wild swimming is increasingly popular. We can put you in touch with an expert. There are 5 golf courses within reach of the house including Kington which is the highest golf course in England and has with fabulous views. Hereford Raceway is close to the house and offers go-karting which the whole family can enjoy. Hereford Squash Tennis and Racket club welcomes visitors. Many guests play tennis and padel. A visit to the Small Rare Breeds Farm at Kington is loved by the young and old. A visit to the market towns of Hay on Wye is loved by book lovers. For those who love a cathedral the Mappa Mundi in Hereford Cathedral is a must. There are still many independent shops in these towns and great galleries and cafes to visit. For garden lovers, there are plenty to visit including the National Trust Weir Gardens on the Wye only 4 miles away. It has a natural play area for children and spectacular views over the river. There are also plenty of interesting gardens to visit in the National Garden Scheme. Monnington House, Garden Cottage and The Cider Mill welcome large groups from all over the UK and world. We have a growing number of overseas guests who repeat book. Geographically Monnington on Wye is located in Central England and is easily reached by our guests from the Midlands, Bristol, Wales, West Country, Ireland, Scotland and Home Counties. I manage and run Monnington House, Garden Cottage and The Cider Mill jointly with my husband. My husband was brought up in the house. We have been offering holiday accommodation since 2013. I used to run a National Lettings Department throughout London and the South West. I have 2 children who are now grown up and live in London but do visit regularly. When I am not busy with the houses, I love to cook particularly when using fruit and vegetables from my garden which I have grown. I breed my own dogs and currently have 2 black labradors being Truffle and her daughter Plum. I love walking them every day and enjoy yoga. I love ceramics and textiles which hopefully you will spot in the houses.
