Tucked away in a quiet corner of Herefordshire are Monnington House, Garden Cottage and The Cider Mill providing a peaceful and private escape. The properties' twelve large tastefully decorated and welcoming bedrooms with 12 bathrooms are spread out over three independent properties. A fabulous working kitchen, geared up for numbers and catering and the dining area which accommodates up to 24 plus an alfresco dining area, are all located in the main house. Catering can be made available. We carry forward a philosophy of hospitality: the feeling of staying in a family home surrounded by understated beauty and elegance. The properties enjoy private peaceful gardens and grounds of 2 acres. All the properties are supplied with high quality Hypnos super king beds (zip and link) and luxurious 400 thread count Egyptian linen. These simple luxuries allow you to rest and restore. There is a ground floor bedroom in Garden Cottage. The Cider Mill is all on one level. The properties are full of books, plants, textiles and objects handpicked by the owner. The hamlet of Monnington on Wye offers undisturbed tranquillity and beauty and yet is connected to many local activities, pubs and cafes and places to visit within 20 minutes. There is a superb farm shop at the top of the lane. A short walk through the enchanting cider orchards is the River Wye. You will hear sheep grazing and birds tweeting. On site there is plenty to do - enjoy the large 2 acres of gardens and grounds which are private and quiet. Play football on the huge playing field. For rainy days and winter nights enjoy the rustic table tennis room and the games room with pool table and table football which are found in the outbuildings. Bring your fleece and wrap up! There is wonderful walking straight from the door to suit all abilities and ages. Monnington on Wye is located on the Bredwardine to Byford Section of the Wye Valley Walk and also on the E1 part of the Wye Walker. Across the river guests love the Moccas Hill Wood National Nature Reserve where there is a large choice of walks and wonderful trees to admire. For those who like to get their heart racing a walk to Arthurs Stone from the house is a challenge and takes about 2 hours or drive to Hay on Wye and march up Hay Bluff. During the summer months the River Wye comes into its own. Guests love fishing and can obtain passes from either Bulmers Angling Club or the Fishing Passport. Large group bookings often enjoy a full or half day canoeing or kayaking on the Wye which can include a suitable stop at a pub on the riverbank for lunch. Wild swimming is increasingly popular. We can put you in touch with an expert. There are 5 golf courses within reach of the house including Kington which is the highest golf course in England and has with fabulous views. Hereford Raceway is close to the house and offers go-karting which the whole family can enjoy. Hereford Squash Tennis and Racket club welcomes visitors. Many guests play tennis and padel. Trekking with the llamas in the Black Mountain is loved and should be booked well in advance and likewise riding in the Welsh Hills. For book lovers a visit to the market town of Hay on Wye is loved. The Mappa Mundi in Hereford Cathedral is a must. There are still many independent shops in Hay on Wye, Presteigne, Hereford and Leominster with great galleries and cafes to visit. The Small Rare Breeds Farm at Kington is nearby and loved by young and old. For garden lovers, there are plenty to visit including the National Trust Weir Gardens on the Wye only 4 miles away. It has a natural play area for children and spectacular views over the river. There are also plenty of interesting gardens to visit in the National Garden Scheme. I manage and run Monnington House, Garden Cottage and The Cider Mill jointly with my husband. My husband was brought up in the house. We have been offering holiday accommodation since 2013. I used to run a National Lettings Department throughout London and the South West. I have 2 children who are now grown up and live in London but do visit regularly. When I am not busy with the houses, I love to cook particularly when using fruit and vegetables from my garden which I have grown. I breed my own dogs and currently have 2 black labradors being Truffle and her daughter Plum. I love walking them every day and enjoy yoga. I love ceramics and textiles which hopefully you will spot in the houses.
