Rustic country luxury at the foot of the fells

Three luxurious self contained cottages sitting within a large converted barn at the foot of the Howgill Fell's in Eastern Cumbria and within the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

The cottages are immaculately presented and super stylish each being perfect for couples, groups of friends, family stays, large gatherings and dog owners.

Each property showcases its own original features and provides a cosy and laid back space with lots of added extras and design touches. Renovated to the highest standards the exceptional internal design has been inspired by nature's textures and colours to offer a relaxed, spacious and luxurious feel throughout.

The Haystore and Byre both sleep 4 with with ground floor en-suite bedrooms, large open plan first floor kitchen/diner/living areas and additional mezzanine levels.

The Carthouse sleeps 6 in a more traditional layout with ground floor kitchen, living room and wet room with bedrooms on 2nd and 3rd floors; making it perfect for larger families or groups of friends.

Features include idyllic rural location, welcome pack full of local produce, log burners, far-reaching views, vaulted ceilings, exposed beams, lots of walks straight from the door, family friendly activities nearby, red squirrels in the garden and enclosed gardens.

Facilities include very well equipped kitchens, property App with lots of pre-arrival information, underfloor heating, bike storage, bath robes, Bath House toiletries, stargazing kits, 55” Smart TV's, Amazon Alexa with Spotify subscription, Bluetooth speaker, maps, games & books and separate washer & dryer.

Dogs are very welcome and are provided with doggy welcome treats, basket, bucket, sponge, shampoo, towel, outside tap and dog waste bin.

The lovely village of Ravenstonedale is a 5 minute drive or 20-25 minute walk and has two excellent dog friendly pubs including the 2023 Top 50 UK Gastropub The Black Swan. The nearby town of Kirkby Stephen is just a short drive and we are also within easy reach of the Lake District and wider Yorkshire Dales too.

As well as focussing on the guest experience The Green Cumbria has lots of eco credentials too with heating and hot water coming from on site heat pumps, solar panels, battery storage, private bore hole, 100% green energy supplier, recycling, eco cleaning products, eco toiletries, recycled toilet tissue, kitchen rolls, etc, ethically sourced soap / shampoo, responsibly sourced firewood and 100% local produce in our welcome pack.

Rated 5* by VisitEngland, The Green Cumbria was Cumbria Tourism New Tourism Business of the Year Runner Up in 2022 and Ethical, Responsible and Sustainable Tourism Business of the Year Runner Up in 2023.

For larger groups an interconnecting door between the first floor living areas of The Haystore and The Byre can be opened allowing a group of up to 8 guests to stay together or all three 3 cottages can be booked together to sleep up to 14 guests.

Meet the owner

Carly Caveney & Richard Duckworth

Carly and Richard - A story of adventure, a love of property and the outdoors. As avid travellers to the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales, a seed was sown many years ago about running an accommodation business in rural Northern England. We purchased The Green in 2020 after falling in love with the barn that had been painstakingly converted with the support of a local architect and craftsmen several years before. Carly has always had a passion for renovating houses and interior design and over the years she has worked on many renovation projects. She has used all her experience to create a place in which guests can immerse themselves and relax in the cosy, nature inspired interiors. Richard has a passion for the hills and mountains and gained his Mountain Leader qualification in 2019 which seemed to go hand in hand with our move to Cumbria. There is nothing he likes more than taking groups out for memorable days in the hills. Carly and Richard are always available, prompt to reply and live next door so are on hand to welcome guests and ensure visitors get the most from their stay,
