About & Contact

Beautiful barn conversion at the foot of the fells

The Byre, a luxurious rustic barn conversion, makes the perfect retreat for four in the beautiful Cumbrian countryside.

Immaculately presented and super stylish the Byre is a perfect cosy cottage for couples, small group of friends, families and dog owners.

One of three cottages at The Green Cumbria The Byre has an upside-down layout, sleeping 4, with both bedrooms on the ground level, each with full en suite, open plan kitchen/living on the first floor and additional mezzanine level.

Features include idyllic rural location, welcome pack full of local produce, log burner, far-reaching views, vaulted ceiling, lots of walks straight from the door, family friendly activities nearby, red squirrels in the garden and an enclosed pebbled courtyard garden (which is perfect for a drink in the late afternoon sunshine!).

Facilities include a very well equipped kitchen, property App with lots of pre-arrival information, underfloor heating, bike storage, bath robes, Bath House toiletries, stargazing kit, 55” Smart TV, Amazon Alexa with Spotify subscription, Bluetooth speaker, games & books and utility area with washer & dryer)

Dogs are very welcome and are provided with doggy welcome treats, basket, bucket, sponge, shampoo, towel, outside tap and dog waste bin.

The lovely village of Ravenstonedale is a 5 minute drive or 20-25 minute walk and has two excellent dog friendly pubs including the 2023 Top 50 UK Gastropub The Black Swan. The nearby town of Kirkby Stephen is just a short drive and we are also within easy reach of the Lake District and wider Yorkshire Dales too - although there are plenty of walks and bike rides straight from the door.

As well as focussing on the guest experience The Green Cumbria has lots of eco credentials too with heating and hot water coming from on site heat pumps, solar panels, battery storage, private bore hole, 100% green energy supplier, recycling, eco cleaning products, eco toiletries, recycled toilet tissue, kitchen rolls, etc, ethically sourced soap / shampoo, responsibly sourced firewood and 100% local produce in our welcome pack.

Rated 5* Gold by VisitEngland, The Green Cumbria was also Cumbria Tourism New Tourism Business of the Year Runner Up in 2022 and Ethical, Responsible and Sustainable Tourism Business of the Year Runner Up in 2023.

The Byre can be linked via an interconnecting door with The Haystore to allow up to 8 guests to stay together.

Reviews for The Byre at The Green Cumbria

Meet the owner

Carly Caveney & Richard Duckworth

Carly and Richard - A story of adventure, a love of property and the outdoors. As avid travellers to the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales, a seed was sown many years ago about running an accommodation business in rural Northern England. We purchased The Green in 2020 after falling in love with the barn that had been painstakingly converted with the support of a local architect and craftsmen several years before. Carly has always had a passion for renovating houses and interior design and over the years she has worked on many renovation projects. She has used all her experience to create a place in which guests can immerse themselves and relax in the cosy, nature inspired interiors. Richard has a passion for the hills and mountains and gained his Mountain Leader qualification in 2019 which seemed to go hand in hand with our move to Cumbria. There is nothing he likes more than taking groups out for memorable days in the hills. Carly and Richard are always available, prompt to reply and live next door so are on hand to welcome guests and ensure visitors get the most from their stay,
