About & Contact

Classic cottage comfort with space to unwind

The Carthouse is a luxurious and beautifully styled barn conversion, offering a more traditional layout for those who value private, peaceful spaces alongside welcoming areas to gather.

Sleeping up to six guests across three thoughtfully arranged floors, The Carthouse is ideal for larger families, groups of friends, and dog owners seeking space, comfort and flexibility. One of three cottages at The Green Cumbria, it combines classic cottage proportions with refined contemporary finishes.

Unlike the open-plan feel of the other cottages, The Carthouse offers a series of calm, enclosed rooms - perfect for those who appreciate quiet corners and separation when needed. The comfortable living room, complete with log burner, creates a warm and inviting space to unwind, while the separate kitchen diner provides a sociable heart of the home for long breakfasts and relaxed evening meals together.

Outside, the enclosed pebbled courtyard garden offers a private suntrap for alfresco lunches and is particularly popular with guests bringing dogs. The larger backside area shared with other guests at The Green has ample space for dogs to explore off the lead and our elevated garden area has space to picnic and enjoy our expansive views to Wild Boar Fell, Mallerstang Edge and Green Bell.

Guests will enjoy a feeling of being nestled in the heart of the countryside, watching red squirrels in the garden and walks and bike rides straight from the door.

The well-equipped kitchen makes catering for six effortless, while thoughtful touches include underfloor heating, bathrobes, Bath House toiletries, stargazing kit, 55” Smart TV, Amazon Alexa with Spotify, Bluetooth speaker, games, books and maps. A washer, dryer and secure bike storage add practical convenience, and the comprehensive property App ensures a smooth and informed stay from booking to departure.

Dogs are warmly welcomed with treats, basket, towel, shampoo, outdoor tap and dedicated waste bin.

The charming village of Ravenstonedale is a 5 minute drive or 20 to 25 minute walk and is home to two excellent dog-friendly pubs, including the award-winning Black Swan with its focus on fine food, and the King's Head with their cosy fires, hearty meals and sense of community. The market town of Kirkby Stephen is a short drive away, and both the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales are within easy reach - though many guests find everything they need right on the doorstep.

Sustainability is at the heart of The Green Cumbria. Heating and hot water are powered by on-site ground source heat pumps, solar panels and battery storage. A private borehole supplies water, and we prioritise eco cleaning products, sustainable toiletries and paper goods, responsibly sourced firewood, recycling, and locally/sustainably sourced produce in our welcome pack.

The Carthouse can be booked independently for up to six guests or combined with the other cottages for larger gatherings of ten or fourteen.
