About & Contact

Stylish countryside escape with space to unwind

The Haystore is a luxurious and beautifully styled barn conversion, offering a peaceful yet sociable retreat for four in the heart of the Cumbrian countryside.

One of three cottages at The Green Cumbria, The Haystore is a warm and welcoming escape for couples, families, friends and dog owners alike. Thoughtfully designed across two floors with a generous mezzanine above, it offers plenty of space to relax and unwind.

The upside-down layout places both bedrooms on the ground floor, each with its own elegant en suite bathroom featuring a spa bath and Bath House toiletries - perfect for soaking tired legs after a day on the fells. Upstairs, the open-plan kitchen, dining and living area sits beneath a vaulted ceiling, creating a light-filled and sociable space, with a cosy mezzanine ideal for quiet reading or film nights. All bedrooms at The Green can be arranged as super king or twin beds for complete flexibility.

In the warmer months, The Haystore truly comes into its own. French doors open easily onto the private elevated terrace, complete with outdoor dining table - perfect for long, relaxed suppers overlooking the countryside. When all three cottages are booked together, the Haystore dining area becomes the natural gathering space, with seating expandable from its usual comfortable eight to up to fourteen guests.

Outside, enjoy far-reaching views, peaceful surroundings and the chance to spot red squirrels in the garden. Walks and bike rides begin straight from the door, with family-friendly activities nearby.

The well-equipped kitchen makes self-catering effortless, while thoughtful touches include underfloor heating, bathrobes, Bath House toiletries, a stargazing kit, 55” Smart TV, JBL Bluetooth speaker, games, books, maps and a utility area with washer and dryer. Secure bike storage and a comprehensive property App ensure a smooth and comfortable stay.

Dogs are very welcome and thoughtfully catered for with treats, basket, towel, shampoo, outdoor tap and dedicated waste bin.

The charming village of Ravenstonedale is just a 5-minute drive or 20–25 minute walk and offers two award-winning, dog-friendly pubs - The Black Swan and The King’s Head. The market town of Kirkby Stephen is a short drive away, and both the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales are within easy reach, though many guests find there is more than enough to explore right on the doorstep.

Sustainability sits at the heart of The Green Cumbria. Heating and hot water are powered by on-site heat pumps, solar panels and battery storage. A private borehole supplies water, and we prioritise eco cleaning products, sustainable toiletries and paper goods, responsibly sourced firewood, recycling, and locally sourced produce in our welcome pack.

For larger gatherings, The Haystore can be linked via an interconnecting door with The Byre, allowing up to eight guests to stay together - or up to fourteen dining together when The Carthouse is reserved as well.
