Nestled in a small woodland overlooking the farm, The Capercaillie is like a holiday home from a dream. Inside you will find an airy space, a huge kitchen/dining/living area, and extra living room with a double height ceiling and sky-view gallery. There are five double bedrooms, 3 en suite. Outside is the huge 10 seater private hot tub and Hobbit-style barbecue hut. There is also an enchanted ‘Fairy Circle’ of tree trunk chairs perfect for watching the sunset from.
As you enter the hallway, to the right, is the cloakroom and utility room and to the left is the kitchen. Straight on you will see a lovely curving Ash staircase. To the left is the dining room and to the right is the garden room/snug. Further on from the dining room is the beautiful living room with patio doors onto a raised decking. Going through the garden room, which also has patio doors onto a raised decking with the hot tub, there is the downstairs bedroom. This has a dressing area and a bathroom with a wet room shower and a deep lovely bath.
Upstairs, there is a gallery landing and view to the skies through the windows in the roof. Four further bedrooms, two with dressing areas and their own bathrooms and two, which can be split into twin rooms, either side of the family bathroom.
Peep outside you will see the barbecue hut, looking a little like a Hobbit House amongst the trees and a fairy circle of chairs made from the stumps of felled trees. Make the most of the private hot tub where there is no light pollution so the stars at night can be amazing. Even though we are south of Edinburgh, guests have been able to see the Northern Lights clearly.
There are acres and acres of farmland here plus hooting owls, roe deer roaming the land, buzzards, falcons, stoats, badgers and foxes. In the distance are the soft green peaks of the Lammermuir Hills.
Set deep in the gorgeous Scottish Borders just 20 miles south of Edinburgh, we are ideally placed for exploring both the Scottish Borders with its history, market towns, abbeys and castles as well as Edinburgh, Glasgow, Stirling, Loch Lomond and The Trossachs. We also have Museums, Abbeys, Beaches, Walks, Golf, Fishing, Food Trails, Farmers Markets, Quirky shops, Edinburgh Zoo, Mountain Biking, Cycling, great Festivals and so much all on the doorstep.
Our onsite Farm Shop stocks local produce, ready made meals, ice cream, cheeses, olives, oil, essentials, plus wool from our Alpacas and Llama. There is a large selection of Gluten Free.
We welcome well behaved dogs, over 12 months of age. All our lodges are over a mile from a public road and have a decking area which is gated so your dog has the freedom to roam yet he or she is still close. The Capercaillie also has a gated garden so prefect for your furry friends. There are lots of walks around the farm for your dog and if they require more exercise we can advise you on fields which are clear of cattle. A little further afield, there are numerous parks, open spaces and beaches. There is an EV charger for you to use at your lodge.
